Pemba Dhow Cruise

A dhow is a traditional Arab sailing ship! Dhows have been well known on the East African coast for over 1000 years. The dhow, built entirely from wood, was originally used to transport spices, carpets, slaves, and chests between India and East Africa.

The dhow always set sail during the monsoon winds. Despite the modern assistance of a small motor, the dhow maintains its original charm for both the young and the young at heart. Three professional fishermen and you are an important part of the crew and are expected to help with various tasks such as raising and lowering the sail and steering the dhow.

Onboard our dhow, we have a personal guide who will accompany you on your cruise and provide a tour of each village we pass by on the water. He will also be available to answer any questions about the sail, the surrounding villages, and anything related to tourism. The cruise will take you to beautiful untouched beaches, sandbanks, and islets that are truly stunning. Photography is warmly welcomed and encouraged. Don't miss out on this experience!
